Student Council is the6109_112229_0.png of student involvement.
It is the most representative and powerful student organization because it works for all students.

A Middle Level Student Council should offer students leadership opportunities and help bring the school together with spirited activities and community service. Students learn how to become involved citizens and how their involvement can create change. Student Council members learn life long skills in leadership, public speaking, networking, and organization.

Blanchard's Student Council is composed of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders and is open to all. The organization offers spirit, social, and community service activities, both locally and globally for our students.  In addition , leadership training and opportunities are available to the students who represent the "executive board" of the school.

Blanchard Middle School is an active member of the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (MASC) ,the National Association of Student Councils (NASC), and the Alliance For Student Activities.  Advisor Ms. Benstead is also the State Middle Level Director for MASC. In the past five years, the Blanchard Student Council has earned several honors and awards at the National level:

AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS

The NASC National Council of Excellence Award provides national recognition for middle school student councils that consistently provide quality leadership activities and service to their schools and communities and introduce young students to their roles as leaders. This award provides broader recognition for the most worthy efforts of NASC member schools. There are two levels of recognition to the National Council of Excellence Awards. The base level is the National Council of Excellence that is awarded to student councils that meet all “Required Standards” and a minimum number of “Additional Standards”. The National Gold Council of Excellence is awarded to student councils that demonstrate the highest levels of leadership and activities as illustrated by meeting all “Required Standards” and a greater number of “Additional Standards”. For either award, student councils must also submit a letter of recommendation from their principals and summaries of council projects.
