Blanchard Middle School Ski Club Information Page

The Blanchard Middle School will be offering an after-school ski/snowboard program to all students this winter. The program will be starting Wednesday, January 6, 2010 and will run for six sessions as follows: January 6, 13, 20, 27 and February 3, 10. Skiing on these Wednesdays will be from 2:15 to 5:00 PM with lessons from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.

The group is chaperoned by Blanchard teachers. Mr. Ruhmann email me.png is the coordinator. Read the information listed below and then use the links above to download the important information, procedures and permission slip.

Wednesay Mornings:
~ Bring snowboard, skis and poles to school and place them in the truck in front of the building. Make sure they are secured together and your name is visible on them.
~ Ski clothes and boots are brought in a duffle bag or ski bag and are stored in the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms. Make sure your name is on your bag.

Morning Equipment Drop Off Procedure:
~On ski club days, skis and snowboards will be dropped off in front of the school. We have arranged for the truck that delivers the skis and snowboards to Nashoba Valley Ski Area to be parked in the parking lot, across from the front-door-crosswalk from 7:15-7:45am. When you drop your child off, the skis, poles, and snowboards get loaded directly onto the truck. Your child will then will cross at the crosswalk with their ski-clothing bag into the school and bring them directly to the girl’s or boy’s locker room. This drop-off procedure is safer for ski club students and helps keep traffic flowing for parents who normally drop their children off for school in the morning. Be alert to other pedestrians in the parking lot as you pull away and exit the parking area.

Ski Clothing:
~ Layers work best!!
~ Warm pair of socks.
~ Thermal underwear (you’ll be cold in jeans with no lining underneath).
~ Parker and ski pants.
~ Helmet recommended.
~ Gloves or mittens.
~ Neck warmer
~ Goggles
~ Helmets for skiers and boarders are highly recommended. Helmets greatly reduce the risk of serious head injury and are now required for all high school level Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) events.

School Dismissal:
~ All ski club members will be notified at the end of the day when they may leave their classrooms to get dressed for ski club and board the bus.
~ Buses are located at the back of the school near the gym exits.
~ Dress in your ski clothes quickly. Remember to take your belongings and school bag with you on the bus. Don’t leave anything behind.
~ Put your ski boots on at school.

Nashoba Valley:
~ Pick up your snowboard, skis and poles as soon as you get off the bus. You will see the truck and all the skis when you depart the bus.
~ Do not go to the ski lodge until you have your board, skis and poles.
~ If you are renting equipment, go to the rental office after you get off the bus. Make sure you have your rental paperwork with you. You will need this each week, so keep it in your pocket.
~ Book bags and duffle bags can be stored in the rental room in cubbies or under benches or in the main lodge in the Blanchard Middle School and Stony Brook School designated area. (This is usually in the main lodge on the left).

Ski Lessons:
~ Your snowboard/ski lesson is at 4:00pm. Report to the area marked, “Ski School” out in front of the Rental Shop around 3:45pm so that you won’t be late for your class.
~ If you are a first time skier, you need to find a chaperone and let him/her know this is your first time skiing/boarding. You will be placed in an early lesson to help you get started on the first day only.
~ Your chaperones are the following teachers from the Blanchard Middle School, You will find them in front of the main lodge, in the rental shop and on the slope. Introduce yourself to them.

Injuries:
~ Ski patrol is there to help you if you get injured.
~ If you are injured on the hill and are concerned about moving with the injury and potentially making it worse. Have a friend get ski patrol.
~ If you can walk, go to ski patrol and have them look at your injury.
~ Chaperones check in regularly with ski patrol and will meet you there.

Pick-up time:
~ Your ski time is over at 5:00pm. You should make arrangements to be picked up in front of the main lodge promptly at 5:00pm. Your chaperones will be standing outside the ski lodge at that time.
~ If you are not being picked up at 5:00pm, you must have a note from your parent stating you are allowed to stay longer and un-chaperoned by the school. Please bring this note to one of the chaperones so that they will know you have permission to stay at Nashoba Valley longer.

Snacks:
~ Nashoba Valley has a snack bar with food, drinks, fires, candy, popcorns, etc. You may stop for a break and purchase food at any time except when you are in ski lessons. The snacks are fairly expensive, so purchase carefully.

Lost Nashoba Tags;
~ If you loose your lift ticket or lesson tag, come see Mr. Ruhmann or one of the other chaperones.  Nashoba charges $5.00 to replace them.
